Frequently Asked Questions

What windows and doors should I buy for my home?

A lot of varied factors lead to this. It can often depend on what you want. For the Tucson and Phoenix environment, fiberglass is, hands down, the best material for Arizona, but it has a higher price point.

While most states have phased out aluminum, Arizona remains a huge home for thermally improved aluminum that will still pass building and replacement codes.

Vinyl usually has the best energy efficiency for windows and is the most economical for any type of home structure.

With a wide number of factors to be considered, reach out to the Weathersby team to help you navigate your upcoming window or door replacement. Our expert team will take into consideration your home structure, colors, and materials, and help you decide which product will best fit your home.

How long does a window or door replacement take?
There are many factors that can affect the completion time for a replacement.

Based on material. aluminum takes the longest, anywhere from three to six months to ship to our warehouse. Fiberglass is about six to eight weeks on average, and vinyl four to six weeks.

How long does a new window or new door installation take?

Depending on how many units are being installed: 3-6 units take about one day.

If re-stucco is needed it will be a few more days depending on how many openings.

When should I consider replacing my windows?

Everyone is different when prioritizing home improvement needs. If the existing units are single pane (which are particularly old) they should be replaced.

Single pane windows are not very energy inefficient, not strong, and allow lots of outside noise into your home. If there are signs of seal failure, we suggest placing it toward the top of the list.

If your windows are older than 15 years, they could also be out of warranty.

Why would my window need to be replaced?

Many customers replace windows because they are old or are not energy efficient.
Window replacement can also update the look of your home.

How do energy-efficient windows compare to other windows?

With energy-efficient windows, you will have a much more comfortable home.

While we cannot pinpoint exactly how much your energy bills will decrease, since there are many factors that contribute to or against, (i.e., the orientation of the sun that the home faces, how many windows, more than one floor, etc.), they will improve.

Many of our customers have noticed improved temperature regulations in their rooms and homes.

How can replacing my windows help me save money?

With the latest change in building/ replacement code in 2018, Getting up-to-date units ensures that you have the best protection and the most economical windows that complement your home.

Why do my home windows get foggy?

While this usually indicates window seal failure, but it does not mean that the window has failed
yet.

Condensation is a byproduct of temperature differentials. So fog, or distortion of the glass
(if it looks dirty despite being cleaned) can be indicators.

However, it would be wise to consider getting the windows replaced. Our sales staff can advise you
on your situation.

Why won't my home window close all the way?

There could be debris build-up. In Arizona, dust and dirt can settle in the tracks of venting
windows. Regular maintenance will help with this issue. An air compressor or blower of some sort helps a lot.

Another common issue is when the locks stop working or latching correctly. With units older than 20 years, time will eventually have this effect on the windows.

What is a pocket window replacement?

A pocket replacement, also known as a jump-frame, step-up, or retro-fit, is a technique mostly for stucco homes to not disrupt the stucco utilized with the window being built a tad smaller than the existing unit.

What is the difference between window casing and window trim?

Casing is usually referred to as interior trim, while “trim” is usually considered external, but they can be used interchangeably, just specify interior or exterior.

Does Weathersby offer window tinting services?

While we do not do the application, there are windows available with tinted glass.

This shouldn’t be confused with the Low-E coating, which improves energy efficiency and has a light greenish tint (some vendors have a bluish one).

Certain after-market tints may not pass building and replacement codes.

If you’re looking for the privacy of tint, it can be ordered with the building of the window or door.

Tinting usually does not pass code on solar heat gain coefficient, unless it is a very thick pane of glass that is
much more expensive and very dark

Why would my patio or front door need to be replaced?
Patio doors and front entry door replacements are often desired for a fresh look or change of scenery and to attract curb appeal.

Security door units can enhance a plain door while giving your home more protection.

Will I need to have my door frame replaced during a door replacement?

From a technical standpoint, not necessarily.

While we can just order a door slab, we would not leave an old door frame, except in rare situations, such as steel frame units.

Why won't my door close properly?
There can be a few distinct reasons, but we would consider the kind of door that is in the existing opening.

For wood doors and older vinyl doors (before the 2000s), there could be expansion/ contraction issues.

Sometimes, heavier doors have standard hinges – ball-bearing hinges would solve this issue.
